I was delighted to find these little fellas @iwako online. My youngest student is 4 years old and especially loved pressing the keys with a penguin assistance! They remind me of the penguin buddies that you get when little ones go ice skating. We all need help and assistance when learning something new.

If you need an extra help with your own children when they practice at home, or maybe you are a teacher yourself and need some new ideas to inspire your students. You could treat them to their very own penguin crew, or maybe a tiger team or panda pals....

Using bright visuals and games to show an idea or demonstrate musical notation, captures children's imagination and makes it more relevant and exciting for them to learn.

1st Lesson with new teaching aids

Yesterday afternoon while teaching two of my younger students, I told the children that the penguins could have their beaks, feet, bodies changed, you see they are eraser puzzles, and the children couldn't leave the little penguins alone. They are great for dexterity of little fingers but the poor penguin crew, were tired out at the end of the lesson and so was I. If you are using these great tools for teaching, set some ground rules before they join the lesson.

After the lesson, one of the parents told me that I couldn't have chosen a better animal, as they were the boys favourite animals. If you have students, maybe find out what they like, favourite colour, animal, day of the week - it helps connect with our students better and they are more likely to enjoy their learning experience. #penguins #favouriteanimal #pianolessonsfalmouth #pianowithclare

The lessons with my new penguin crew were a success, they helped with finding all the C's on the piano and also waddled to the rhythmic exercises that I printed out for the children to follow using whole notes (choc-late- dough-nut), half notes (dough-nut) and quarter notes (nut). Enjoy finding new ways to teach and if you use any of the above ideas, please let me know how you get on! Have a Tapping Tuesday!
