It has been a hectic week or so with a lot going on. Balancing everything and making time to work towards my goals has been a bit of a challenge. One particular struggle I've faced is maintaining discipline. Staying up late, overeating, and excessive drinking have all played a role in why this blog post is delayed and why I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed. However, it's important to note that I have still managed to accomplish some things. I've been consistent with my gym sessions, joined a couch to 5K group and completed the first week, practiced the piano daily, and focused on improving my playing skills. Despite all this, I feel like I'm not progressing much in my personal development as a pianist. At least, that's how it seems to me.
Have you ever found yourself procrastinating on something important and dear to your heart? For me, it's the dream of hosting my own piano concert. I can vividly imagine the experience, the music filling the room, creating a truly special and emotional evening. Despite nurturing this aspiration for several years, I'm reluctant to admit how stagnant I've become. The fear of failure has held me back from pursuing this dream, leaving me feeling trapped in this cycle of inaction.
Steven Bartlett's book, Diary of a CEO, discusses in law 21 the idea that failure can be beneficial.
Steven Bartlett quotes “Failure = feedback. Feedback = knowledge. Knowledge = power. Failure gives you power.
Being stuck is inevitable as long as I continue to procrastinate and adopt the attitude of 'I will do it tomorrow'.
What will I do in this situation? I will prepare the set list and schedule a concert date. It's fine if it's not perfect and I make mistakes. Taking action is a form of learning, and the more you engage in activities you love, the more proficient you become. I acknowledge that overcoming this challenge won't be easy for me. We all face obstacles and challenges in life. Being vulnerable is a natural part of being human, and when we exhibit vulnerability, it inspires others to have the courage to pursue uncertain endeavors. Ultimately, this will contribute to a more creative, resilient world where individuals support each other in standing up and making a difference.
